To remove malware from torrents is not always easy. All torrent downloads contain some form of malware. If you use the programs before you remove the malware you will be tracked. To remove malware from torrents is basically the same process that goes into scanning for a virus, and of course a little manual work as well. You’ll need a few up to date Anti-Virus programs. Just because 1 program is unable to find malware doesn’t mean another won’t. After you are done scanning you’ll need to browse by eye and hand for altered files (obviously you need to know what you are looking for), backdoors and out-bound links etc. Again, very important to know what you are looking for. If Backdoor viruses are left behind, and most people do leave remnants, they could cause havoc. They Allow re-entry from the hacker to inject more URL redirects, location hacks and tracking codes, links.
If you are knowledgeable enough to deal with the risks associated with downloading torrents infected with Malware, go for it. If so, do yourself a favor and use a reputable VPN service before downloading torrents. I use Windscribe.
NOTE: If you want to stay safe online:
- Stay away from downloading torrents. They are all infected.
- Make sure your operating system has the latest security updates. (Windows/MacOS)
- Like I mentioned above, use a reputable VPN service, I like and use Windscribe.
- Add an extra layer of security with real-time protection using Malwarebytes Premium.
